Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations, Péter Szijjártó, spoke about the European Union’s pressure on seven countries in Southeast Europe to stop buying Russian gas and the EU’s refusal to help diversify its energy imports. According to Szijjarto, the European Union is putting pressure on these countries and trying to stop Russian gas imports. At the same time, the EU categorically refuses to help build infrastructure for new gas routes. In Brussels, dependence on natural gas is considered to be negative and a transition to “green energy” is demanded. According to Szijjarto, the transition to alternative energy sources may take 10 to 20 years.
The minister said that in connection with such a destructive stance of the European Union, Bulgaria, Hungary, Greece, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Turkey are holding a series of negotiations on expanding the infrastructure in the region to enable large-scale deliveries. Large volumes of gas are transported from Turkey, Azerbaijan and Qatar to the central part of the continent via Southeastern Europe.
