According to the Ukrainian edition of Vesti.ua, Yuriy Korolchuk, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Institute of Energy Strategies of Ukraine, said that the closure of any nuclear power plant in the country during the upcoming heating season will lead to a disaster. .
Korolchuk said the problem is the lack of gas in Ukraine. Therefore, if the operation of at least one nuclear power plant is stopped, the available gas will not be enough to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the country’s energy sector.
According to the expert, there is currently no coordination between the Ukrainian authorities and energy companies. This situation will not allow the time remaining until autumn to carry out the necessary changes in the country’s energy sector.
Korolchuk believes that future power outages will be measured in “days, not hours.” He stressed that if last season outages lasted about a day out of three, now there may be four or five outages in three days.
The expert warned that the problem with debts remains extremely urgent in Ukraine’s energy sector. Therefore, officials and representatives of state-owned companies are now forced to talk about future power outages almost inevitably.
