According to Natalia Belyakova, director of the RGS Exploration and Tourism Development Department, the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) has developed new tourist routes through the village of Khatanga in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, one of the northernmost settlements in Russia. “Izvestia”.
This year, the Russian Geographical Society, together with private investors, developed a new route from Khatanga to the Arctic. Previously, tourists had to fly there over Svalbard or use an icebreaker. From 2024, RGS tours to the Arctic via the revitalized Barneo ice camp, a drift station, will begin in Khatanga.
The first tourist expedition to the Arctic along the new route through Khatanga is scheduled to depart in the spring of 2024. Organizers state that this route attracts great attention from Chinese tourists. But Natalia Belyakova emphasizes that Khatanga is interesting not only as a transit place for traveling to the Arctic, but also in itself.
The Russian Geographical Society has developed and launched several tourist routes this year with a focus on Khatanga. For example, it includes the “The Lost World of Anabar: from deer to taimen” summer photo safari and the “Treasure hunters: The whirlpools and jewels of Anabar” route. The cost of such tours is from 350 to 450 thousand rubles per person.
