According to the company’s press service, QIWI Bank, which belongs to the QIWI group, made the first financial transaction in digital rubles to the charity SOS Children’s Villages, which helps orphans and families in the crisis.

It is stated that before making the first donation to a charity using digital rubles, the bank is testing transfers between individuals.

On August 15, users in the pilot’s focus group made a C2B transfer in digital rubles – QIWI Bank was among the first to launch the possibility of making such transactions.

The bank emphasized that users have successfully opened a digital ruble account through the bank’s mobile application, filled the digital ruble account from the QIWI Wallet, and transferred charitable funds to the SOS Children’s Villages using the QR code in favor of the bank’s partner.

According to Maria Shevchenko, Chairman of the Board of QIWI Bank, currently all services are operating normally and operations are proceeding successfully.

“The bank was preparing for testing, so we did not have any difficulties working with real digital rubles. We will gradually increase the number and intensity of operations,” he said.

Nikolai Slabzhanin, Executive Director of SOS Children’s Villages, said that the charity has been trying for nearly 30 years to find a comprehensive solution to the problem of social orphanhood in Russia.

“We try to keep up with the times, follow the trends, it is important for us to participate in the test for the promotion of the digital ruble by helping QIWI Bank debug the system of transferring charitable donations in the digital form of the ruble. We are currently supported by more than 45,000 philanthropists in money transfers through various methods. And now we have become even more technologically advanced. We will be pleased with the new benefactors and their support with digital rubles, Slabzhanin said.

On August 1, the digital ruble law came into force in Russia. On August 15, real transactions with digital rubles began for individuals and legal entities in pilot mode.
