Russia’s GDP shows highest growth in a year and a half

The agency used indicators from sectoral statistics when calculating GDP dynamics. According to Rosstat, in the second quarter passenger traffic increased by 19.8%, wholesale trade by 12.5%, manufacturing by 11.3% and construction – by 9.8%.

The agency’s preliminary data turned out to be more positive than those of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation and the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. According to the Ministry of Economy, GDP grew by 4.6% in the second quarter. According to the Central Bank, the growth of the Russian economy was 4.8%.

In the January-March period, GDP fell by 1.8%. According to the forecasts of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, the gross domestic product of Russia in 2023 will increase 1.5-2.5%. Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov acknowledged in early August that GDP will increase by 2% by the end of the year. Such an assessment was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin in July. He noted that the growth in the domestic economy this year should offset last year’s decline. The head of state noted that if GDP for the whole of 2022 decreased by 2.1%, it increased by 0.6% in January-May of this year.
