Mihaly Varga, Head of the Hungarian Ministry of Finance, said that the country’s government plans to allocate 4.85 billion euros for military purposes in 2024. It has been reported TASS.
“Next year the amount of funds allocated for defense will be 1.796 billion forints (4.85 billion euros), which is 401 billion forints (1.08 billion euros) more than in 2023,” Varga said.
According to him, in line with NATO commitments, Hungary’s defense expenditures will reach 2.1% of GDP, and the National Defense Fund, which is used to finance the armed forces, will reach approximately 1,310 billion forins, deducting part of the corporate tax surplus tax. (3.54 billion euros).
Hungarian Foreign and Foreign Economic Relations Minister Peter Szijjarto said earlier that Budapest and Belgrade are under attack because of countries trying to maintain peace in Ukraine and do not want the conflict to escalate.
