One in five Britons has serious problems with their utility payments

The number of Britons experiencing serious problems with their public service payments reached 21% of the population in January 2023. These were 10.9 million against 7.8 million in May last year. In this respect says From the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

“The number of people who believe these payments are a heavy burden for them has increased from 7.8 million (15% of the population) to 10.9 million (21% of the population),” the message said.

At the same time, the number of citizens who paid their bills late increased by 1.4 million and reached 5.6 million as of January 2023.

Almost a third of respondents – 29% – have increased their mortgage payments, and more than a third of respondents – 34% – pay more rent. In total, 77% of respondents faced an increase in various payments.

The study was conducted by the FCA from December 6, 2022 to January 16, 2023, as part of last year’s economic dynamics study. The results of this study will be published later. 5,286 British adults participated in the current survey, 2% of those who answered “don’t know” were not included in the results.
