16 European countries will hold a meeting in the French capital on Tuesday to discuss the possibility of reducing reliance on Russia in nuclear energy. Agency reports France Presse (AFP)He cites a source close to Agnès Pannier-Runachet, France’s Minister for the Energy Transition.

According to the information obtained by AFP, the meeting will be held within the framework of the alliance of European states on atomic energy, which was created in March this year with the initiative of France. Energy ministers from 14 countries of the European Union will attend the meeting. The Italian representative is invited to the meeting as an observer, and the UK representative is invited as a “special guest”. The heads of the ministries will consider possible ways to “strengthen Europe’s independence from Russia, especially with regard to nuclear fuel.” At the same time, the AFP source emphasized that it is impossible to achieve such independence immediately, since in some European countries there are nuclear power plants built according to Russian projects, which only increases the dependence on nuclear fuel from Russia.

AFP states that Paris is ready to use its production capacities intensively, especially nuclear fuel production, in order to end its dependence on Moscow in the nuclear sector.

Previously in US Newsweek allegedThat the United States remains dependent on Russia for its nuclear fuel supply.
