US threatens to impose sanctions on Georgia in case of resumption of direct flights with Russia, informs publication Accent Regarding the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Georgian airlines that will serve aircraft under import and export control may be subject to sanctions.

The EU also urges Georgia not to resume flights with Russia and to join sanctions against Moscow.

In his meeting with the Georgian newspaper Netgazeti, European Union Foreign Representative Peter Stano said that otherwise the country may be subject to secondary sanctions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin canceled the visa regime applied to Georgian citizens as of May 15, 2023, and also lifted the flight ban on Russian airlines.
