PCT: International flight prices increased due to volatility in the ruble and rising fuel costs

Prices for international flights from Russia to foreign countries have increased by 15-30% recently due to the fluctuation of the ruble exchange rate and the increase in the cost of aircraft fuel. Words by Dmitry Gorin, Vice-President of the Russian Association of the Tourism Industry (PCT) opens RIA News.

“The price increase, which ranges from 15 to 30 percent in the international transportation segment, is more pronounced. One major factor is at play – exchange rate volatility that has changed 30 percent or more in the last two quarters <….> The increase in the cost of aviation fuel has reached 45 percent,” he said.

According to him, other factors also affect the dynamics. Among the most important are the increase in operating expenses of Russian airlines, including the payroll fund, as well as the costs of maintenance and repair of foreign-made aircraft.
