After the data were revised by analysts of the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat), the share of the poor in Russia for the first time in recent history fell below 10% to 9.8% in 2022. At the same time, the previous evaluation of the department was 10.5%, informs RBC.
“Rosstat has provided an updated estimate of the poverty level in Russia. According to new data from the statistics service, in 2022 14.3 million Russians, or 9.8% of the population, were below the poverty line. That’s 1 million people, or 0.7 percent, below the agency’s initial estimate, released in March 2023.
Before that, the closest values of the poverty rate were recorded 11 years ago – in 2012. Then the share of poor citizens of the Russian Federation was 10.7% (15.4 million) of the country’s population. The article revealed that the new indicator is 1.2% (by 1.7 million people) less than the 2021 values.
