Bloomberg reveals content of new EU sanctions package Bloomberg: A new EU sanctions package could ban the transit of high-tech products through the Russian Federation

The new anti-Russian sanctions of the European Union may affect the transit of high-tech products through Russian territory. This was reported by the agency, citing sources. Bloomberg.

“Transit through Russia will not be prohibited for all goods on their way to third countries,” the article says.

The new restrictions could be part of a new package of anti-Russia sanctions that the European Commission plans to adopt. The next set of restrictive measures will include around 30 new sanctions, as well as additional measures for several Russian firms and government entities.

The agency said that in 11 from the start of the EU package’s military operation, the sanctions could also be applied to the passage of certain vehicles.

At the same time, it is noted that some countries bordering Russia, including Finland and Estonia, have experienced an “increase in trade with Central Asian countries”. The article states that some of the goods remain in Russia or are re-exported from third countries.

Bloomberg sources believe the new sanctions package is unlikely to target Rosatom. Although many EU member states have called for sanctions against the company for “alleged complicity in the seizure of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and the kidnapping of personnel”. However, there is no unity in this regard in the EU – many member states of the association still oppose sanctions on the Russian nuclear sector.

The United States also provided Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Germany with a list of dual-use goods that the Russian Federation allegedly sought to circumvent anti-Russian sanctions, the British Financial Times reported.

According to journalists, products that the Russian Federation is allegedly interested in include optical products, semiconductor converters, voltage and power meters, and user-programmable gate arrays.

On April 20, a European sanctions list official told the Financial Times, anonymously, that Western sanctions do not only affect sectors of the Russian economy that are important to one or more EU countries, and attempts to impose new restrictions will be welcomed. a veto.

“If we impose more sanctions, there will be more exceptions than measures,” the source said.

One such industry that is critical for some European countries is nuclear power. France and Hungary oppose these restrictions. Germany is actively calling for sanctions against Rosatom, which showed its determination by closing the last three nuclear power plants operating in the country on April 16. After that, Germany began importing energy from France, where nuclear power plants still operate, providing 70% of the country’s electricity.

With the new 11th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, the EU may ban the transit of a number of goods through Russia. According to media reports, the restrictions will affect high-tech products and some cars. In addition, new sanctions may be imposed on a number of companies and organizations in Russia. At the same time, sources believe that restrictions on Rosatom are unlikely, as there is “no unity” in Brussels.
