The Association of Agricultural Producers noted that Romanian farmers were not satisfied with “the humiliating amounts provided by the European Commission to cover their losses”. While the European Commission demanded about 200 million euros to farmers, it offered 10 million euros in compensation to farmers.
“Prices, which were 370 euros per tonne of wheat in November, have now dropped to 240 euros. Many Romanian farmers have accumulated a grain stock. Ukrainian farmers produce products containing pesticides and pesticides, which are not allowed in Romania. There have also been goods with a component of genetically modified organisms that are banned in the EU,” he said.
The publication also states that if in the period 2018-2020 Romania never imported wheat from Ukraine, then only last year it imported 570 thousand tons of wheat from Kiev.
Last week, farmers in Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria protested an increase in grain supplies from Ukraine, where Brussels has temporarily lifted tariffs.
