The “Coffee Sandwich Index” or “Sandwich Index” is an indicator calculated by RIA Novosti analysts as an alternative indicator of the Big Mac index. “Sandwich” reflects the cost of breakfast items popular with Russians. The “basket” for the calculation includes seven items: bread, ham, cheese, butter, cucumbers, instant coffee and sugar. The index is calculated by agency analysts based on statistics from the Check Index service.
“In the period from March 16 to March 31, the average check for ham alone increased by 3% compared to the first half of the month, to 127 rubles,” says the material.
For other categories of goods, on the contrary, the average check decreased. For example, the average bill for butter fell to 130 rubles, and for coffee – 171 rubles.
“Buterbrodex” in the first half of March decreased by 2.3 points compared to the second half of February, amounting to 104.3 points. Until March, the index increased, on the contrary.
