Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed the law confirming the agreement between the Belarusian government and the Russian government on cooperation in the development of cargo transport. We are talking about the transportation of certain types of cargo through the transport corridors passing through the territory of the two countries. In this respect reported agency RIA Novosti.
From the law signed by Lukashenka comes the phrase “to approve the agreement between the government of the Republic of Belarus and the government of the Russian Federation on cooperation in the development of transport of certain types of goods through transport corridors …”.
In March, this bill was approved by the Belarusian parliament.
Earlier, the Belarusian Ministry of Transport announced that alternative routes will be created for the supply of Belarusian export products within the framework of the agreement. The transport of goods from the republic to third countries will be carried out both through Russian ports and land transport infrastructure.
In February, the Lithuanian authorities stopped cooperating with Belarus to ensure an uninterrupted flow of transport across the border. According to the Belarusian State Border Committee, the border services will no longer cooperate to prevent the formation of queues at the border. Also, since February 16, Lithuania has closed the Stasilay border crossing to freight trains due to the “increasing threat to national security”. At the beginning of the year, Vilnius denounced the agreement on the principles of cross-border cooperation.
After the 2020 Presidential elections, the republic’s relations with Western countries deteriorated. Western countries gradually introduced sanctions against Belarusian authorities and businesses.
