Bloomberg: Germany seeks EU control over end-users of dual-use products

Germany wants the European Union (EU) countries to introduce end-user controls on technological and electronic products that Russia can use for military purposes in Ukraine. It has been reported Bloomberg With reference to German Economy Minister Robert Habek.

According to the agency, Habek told reporters on March 24 that Germany was studying export data from countries of the former USSR and other countries bordering Russia. He said truck movement has quadrupled since the introduction of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation.

“We immediately identified measures, one of which would be to impose control over the end use of such dual-use goods,” he said, emphasizing that such a measure is usually introduced only for military goods.

According to him, companies selling these products need to know who their final consumer is. To take such a measure, he proposed to introduce a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation.

The German Minister of Economy also pointed out that the legal aspects of such a move across the EU should be taken into account, given the different rules in different countries of the Union.
