Ukrainian energy company Ukrenergo urged citizens of the country not to participate in the global action “Earth Hour” on Saturday, as it “does not contribute to saving electricity”. This was reported by the Ukrainian newspaper “Strana.ua”.

The action “World Time” means to turn off the lights of the world from 20:30 to 21:30 local time. According to Ukrenergo, if the action is supported by a large number of people, there may be excess power in certain regions and instability in the system. It is argued that a major power outage does not help the Earth in any way, but can greatly damage the electrical grid.

The company emphasizes that “Everyone’s greatest contribution will be the daily economic use of electricity during busy morning and evening hours.”

Former press secretary of Russian President Dmitry Peskov declarationThat the Kremlin is not considering participating in an environmental action called “Earth Hour” this year. According to him, this was because the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) was recognized as a foreign agent.
