According to the agency, the Personal Information Protection Commission has fined the Korean branch of the American fast food chain in addition to a fine for the data breach.
The publication noted that the Korean division failed to provide an adequate level of information protection. At the same time, a backup file with information about clients remained, which hackers found access to.
As a result, the personal data of more than 4.87 million customers was hacked and fell into the hands of attackers. It was also found that McDonald’s Korea did not destroy the personal data of more than 766,000 customers whose data retention period has expired.
