“The deadline for gas payments in rubles has passed.” Warsaw says Russia is suspending gas supplies

Russia 26 April suspended Gas supply to Poland under the Yamal contract, the portal claims a with reference to sources. According to him, a crisis group met in the Ministry of Climate of the Republic.

“There is no statement from Russia as to whether this is the fulfillment of the ultimatum that Vladimir Putin recently threatened. Official announcements regarding this should be made public today.”

The Polish government and the Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) unofficially confirmed the information on the suspension of gas supply to the publication. “We are considering various scenarios and are ready for them,” said representatives of the business.

“It is known that the deadline for gas payments in Russian currency expired last Friday,” writes Onet.

At the same time, the PGNiG agreement with Gazprom (Yamal contract – socialbites.ca) expires at the end of 2022.

at Gazprom not approved Information that Russia has already stopped gas supplies to Poland – TASS cites the words of Sergey Kupriyanov, the official representative of the holding.

At the same time, Gazprom emphasizes that “Poland today has to pay for gas supply according to the new payment procedure”.

In response, PGNIG said that from April 27, Russia’s gas supplies to Poland “will be terminated due to non-compliance with payment terms”.

The deadline for gas payment in rubles has expired

On the Polish website, at the end of March, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Gazprom had signed a decree ordering foreign contractors from so-called “enemy countries” to pay Russian gas only in rubles.

“According to the letter they received, under the threat of ‘turning off the tap’, they had to pay for gas in rubles. Most EU countries, including Poland and Germany, did not accept this dictatorship.

PGNiG and gas transmission operator Gaz-System reported on April 22 that gas deliveries to Polish consumers have so far been carried out in accordance with orders. It was also noted that the situation is constantly monitored due to the threat of suspension of Russian gas supplies to PGNiG.

“We consider various scenarios and are ready for them. “Through the implementation of the government strategy to diversify gas supply sources, PGNiG is ready to receive gas from different directions through the Gas System gas transmission infrastructure, which has been constantly evolving for several years.”

Independence from Russian gas

Piotr Naimsky, Plenipotentiary Member of the Republican Government for Strategic Energy Infrastructure, stated that already in 2022, Warsaw is ready to become completely independent of Russia’s gas supply to Poland.

In his speech at the European Economics Congress, he said, “The works carried out for this purpose for six years are being completed this year in accordance with the calendar and without delay.” “A gas pipeline connecting us to Norway will come into operation in October this year. In the first stage, the gas terminal was expanded. It can take 6.3 billion cubic meters. m per year gas. Gas pipeline from Norway – 10 billion cubic meters.

Naimsky said Poland “could cut this supply at any moment” if it finally decided to become independent of Russian gas. “We are pursuing a diversification strategy in an organized manner,” he explained, noting that Europe is “not yet ready to drastically change the direction of supply.”

“We will not pay”

According to Naimsky, the Polish authorities do not intend to accept the Russian side’s request for payment of gas from the Russian Federation in rubles.

“We will not pay,” he said on April 26. “All opportunities and risks are being evaluated. We are ready for them. We are ready for the actions of the Russian side that provide the possibility of stopping the supplies,” he said.

At the same time, the terms of payment for gas supply in April may vary in different contracts, but in general, the payment period started in the middle of this month.

The European Commission had previously sent a letter to EU countries, explaining that European companies can pay for Russian gas in rubles, subject to certain conditions, without violating the sanctions imposed on Moscow. One of the possible payment schemes was the opening of accounts in a Russian bank in dollars or euros. The European gas buyer company deposits the money into this account, converts it into rubles and makes the payment. The plan excludes the possibility of Western countries blocking payments for Russian gas, writes Reuters.

Last week, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that the country’s authorities will “act according to the position of the European Commission” when deciding to pay for Russian gas in rubles. However, as it is known today, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic imposed sanctions on Gazprom, which owns 48% of the shares of the Polish company, co-owner of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline.

Against this background, we add that gas prices in Europe are approaching $1,095 per 1,000 cubic meters. As evidenced by the m.London data exchange ice, nail growing more than 6%.

On April 26, the Polish edition of Onet announced that Russia had suspended gas supplies to Poland. The local press also points out that the reasons for this decision have not been given to the Polish side yet. Earlier on Tuesday, the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs sanctioned Gazprom, which owns 48% of the Polish company, co-owner of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline. Piotr Naimsky, the plenipotentiary representative of the Polish government, said that Warsaw does not intend to pay rubles for gas, as Moscow wants. Read more in the article “socialbites.ca”.
