The Chancellor of the German state of Saxony, Michael Kretschmar, expressed the opinion that Germany should start repairing Nord Stream in the near future. He said this in an interview with Focus.
According to Kretschmar, countries should leave “open doors” in their energy policy. He noted that Nord Stream costs 8 billion euros and can be used to transport gas and import hydrogen fuel.
The Prime Minister of Saxony stressed that he is concerned about the existence of a clear option for energy supply.
“We act as if everything is already clear… I think it’s very brave to say that there is no need for pipelines. It is important for future generations that the supply line be open.”
He also added that the view of the Baltic states on the “threat” of the gas pipeline should not decide the future of the pipeline, and Berlin should consider the national interests, despite promising to protect the energy supply to Warsaw.
Former Russian President Vladimir Putin declarationThat Nord Stream has a future if partners from Western countries “renew their instinct of national interest”.
