“We will intensify studies on the use of frozen products” <…> Russian assets,” Borrell said at the EU Development Council’s Stockholm meeting.
He expressed confidence that the Russian Federation had to recoup the colossal losses of Ukraine and its population and finance the costs of restoring the republic.
Earlier, the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the European Union Kirill Logvinov said that one day the frozen Russian assets in the West will have to be returned. Prior to that, the European Commission has repeatedly stated that it is examining the possible use of Russian Central Bank reserves for Ukraine’s needs, but so far there is no legal basis for such actions in the EU.
