Starting salaries for IT professionals in the US after earning a bachelor’s degree in 2023 will be less than for engineering graduates. The agency wrote about it Bloomberg Citing a study by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

Young IT professionals’ salaries this year will be reduced by 4% from 2022, down from an average of $75.9k to $72.8k per year. At the same time, the salaries of young specialists in the field of engineering technologies will increase by 0.7%, averaging 74.4 thousand dollars per year.

“The cut in computer scientists’ starting salaries is likely the result of a recent recalibration among tech companies that traditionally offer the best prices,” said Sean Vanderziel, CEO of NACE.

Speaking of recalibration, Vanderziel is referring to cutbacks at America’s biggest tech companies following staff growth during the coronavirus pandemic. More than 100,000 employees of such organizations have lost their jobs since the beginning of January 2023.

Bloomberg last week WroteZoom Video Communications Inc. fired its president, Greg Tomba, who came to the company from Google and worked in the new location for less than a year.
