Kazakhstan may stop natural gas exports next winter. This measure may be necessary to meet the needs of the population and industrial enterprises in the internal market of the republic, opens words of the agency of Arman Kasenov, deputy chairman of the board of the state energy company QazaqGaz.
Until recently, the main consumers of gas from Kazakhstan were some Asian and European countries. China, Switzerland and Ukraine were among the main buyers of the republic’s fuel. However, at the end of 2022, the total volume of natural fuel exports from Kazakhstan fell sharply from 7.2 billion cubic meters in 2021 to 4.6 billion cubic meters.
“Kazakhstan plans to stop natural gas exports next winter in order to fully supply its domestic market. The only way to prevent domestic famine is to stop exports. Kazakhstan plans to start using natural gas instead of coal this year to power and heat its largest city, Almaty.
On February 24, the agency TASS cited the words of Arman Kasenov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of QazaqGaz. reportedQazaqGaz and the Russian energy company Gazprom will discuss a project for possible gasification of the eastern regions of the Central Asian republic. To achieve this aim, a new transit route was proposed and a feasibility study was conducted for this project.
