Reuters: G7 countries increase economic aid to Ukraine to $39 billion for 2023

On February 23, the G7 countries increased economic support to Ukraine for 2023 to $39 billion and called for the International Monetary Fund program for the country to be adopted by the end of March. It has been reported Reuters referring to a statement released by the head of the bloc, Japan.

“In line with the needs of the Ukrainian government, we have increased our budget and economic support commitments for 2023 to $39 billion,” the statement said.

As the agency noted, the decision was taken after a meeting of the bloc’s finance ministers and central bank governors on the eve of the anniversary of the special military operation in Ukraine.

Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki told reporters that the G7 should assess the effectiveness of existing sanctions against Russia before deciding to take further steps.
