Sergiy Nikolaychuk, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Ukraine said Bloomberg had to hurriedly leave the building and go to the underground bunker about the specifics of negotiating with representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the allocation of $ 1.4 billion in financial aid.

“In March 2022, an airstrike interrupted an important call for a $1.4 billion emergency relief deal with the International Monetary Fund. Thereupon, the authorities went underground to go to a safe place. The delegation continued their consultations by meeting in front of a laptop in a narrow room of four square meters. I think the IMF team was impressed,” said Nikolaychuk.

He also added that in the first days when the conflict between Russia and Ukraine intensified, the Central Bank administration decided to evacuate personnel to an unknown location in Western Ukraine. Later, NBU employees moved to Lviv, near the Polish border. The 18-hour journey to the other end of the country was characterized by numerous traffic jams.

“I was in shock when it happened. After giving advice to everyone (evacuation – socialbites.ca), I myself was not at all ready for this. But I had several feelings: the first was fear for my family, and the second was a great sense of responsibility. “I realized that something truly terrible was happening and that keeping the financial system afloat would be the task of a lifetime,” Nikolaychuk said.

February 15 Verkhovna Rada deputy Daniil Getmantsev declarationAt the end of last year, Ukraine’s exports to foreign countries decreased by 35.1% to $44.15 billion, while imports decreased by 24.1% to $55.27 billion. ($-11.12 billion).
