Refinitiv: Russia increases liquefied natural gas supply to Europe by 20% in 2022 09:46

With reference to data from analytics company Refinitiv Reuters reportedHe said Russia increased its LNG supply to the European Union by 20% in 2022 compared to a year ago. The article states that Russia sends a total of 17 million tons of fuel to European countries.

Accordingly, Refinitiv analysts concluded that Russia partially compensated for the sharp decline in pipeline gas supplies to Europe. As Reuters wrote in December, the volume of natural gas Russia supplies to Europe via pipelines has fallen to the “post-Soviet minimum”. Analysts said this was influenced by the European Union’s reduced fuel consumption and explosions that damaged the Nord Stream pipeline.

According to agency statistics, the total volume of Russia’s LNG exports increased by 8.6% to 33 million tons in 2022. Analysts said more than half of that volume was sent to Europe.

As before knowledgeable According to the news of the Kommersant newspaper, European countries increased their LNG purchases from Russia by 50% in the January-September 2022 period last fall, to 15 billion cubic meters. This happened against the backdrop of a decline in Gazprom’s pipeline supply. The article said that LNG supply has become an effective tool for diversifying Russian gas exports due to the lack of dependence on transit countries. In addition, this approach became valid after the sabotage in Nord Streams. At the same time, it was stated that it is better not to build new gas pipelines for now, due to geopolitical risks and difficulties in long-term forecasts in the energy market.
