According to the Financial Monitoring Service of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, North Korea received approximately $2.3 million from international organizations and other institutions in 2022, down $14 million from 2021. It has been reported Yonhap News Agency.
The publication states that Switzerland provided approximately 69.5% of the total funding – $1.6 million – to DPRK in 2022 through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Swiss Development Cooperation.
Through the Swedish Red Cross, Sweden donated $513,927 to Pyongyang and $199,601 to the Norwegian Red Cross.
The agency emphasizes that Canada, Finland, France and Germany, which offered financial aid to North Korea in 2021, did not do so in 2022.
The publication states that Switzerland plans to send an additional $1.2 million through UNICEF for “nutritional services” in 2023.
Earlier, South Korean President Yoon Sok-yeol had said that Seoul is ready to provide coronavirus vaccines and necessary medicines to North Korea, with Pyongyang’s permission.
