Almost two-thirds of Russian trips abroad during the New Year holidays fell to the CIS countries

The share of trips made by Russia to the CIS countries and neighboring countries during the New Year holidays amounted to 60%. About Writer RBC cites data from a survey of the largest Russian mobile operators MTS (80.2 million subscribers in the third quarter of 2022) and Megafon (74.9 million).

Among MTS customers, the share of those who preferred the CIS and neighboring countries at the beginning of 2023 increased by 20 points to 63%. Megaphone provided similar data. At the same time, the share of customers choosing the CIS and neighboring countries has increased even more significantly – from 43 pp to 63%.

Representatives of operators noted that Russians most often travel to Georgia, Abkhazia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. Turkey and the United Arab Emirates have also become popular holiday destinations during the New Year holidays.

According to the Russian Association of Tour Operators, 600,000 Russians traveled abroad in all directions during the holidays. At the same time, the domestic tourist flow reached 10.3 million people. knowledgeable “socialbites.ca” with reference to ATOR data. Regional authorities have previously stated that the tourist flow in Russia slightly exceeded the 2022 level. According to them, in the period from December 30, 2022 to January 8, 2023, the tourist flow in Russia as a whole exceeded last year’s figures by about 300 thousand people.
