JB Press: Japan reveals how country finances Russia’s special operation in Ukraine

The publication noted that despite Japan participating in the sanctions, trade turnover between the two countries in the January-November 2022 period has already caught up with last year. The physical volume of imports to Japan was already above 2021 values.

According to JB Press, shipments from Russia to Japan between January and November 2022 amounted to just over 1.8 trillion yen, while exports amounted to 542.3 billion yen. At the same time, according to the results of last year, the volume of deliveries from Russia was 1.551 trillion yen. That is, the current import volume is 270 billion yen more than the figures for the whole of last year.

In early November, Masahiro Okafuji, chairman of the Japanese company Itochu, which participated in the Sakhalin-1 oil and gas project, declaration The Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported that the country could not survive without Russian oil and gas. He noted that unlike Europe or the United States, Japan is almost entirely dependent on foreign energy sources. Therefore, according to him, Tokyo cannot sever its ties with Moscow.
