Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak expressed the view that Europe will inevitably face gas shortages in 2022. He said this in an interview TASS.

According to Novak, EU countries have already reduced their fuel consumption by 40-50 billion cubic meters due to the decrease in the production of fertilizers, metallurgy and gas chemicals.

“The recent decision to put a ceiling on gas prices shows once again that Western colleagues are not driven by sound economic calculations, but simply flirting with their voters,” Novak said.

According to him, the leaders of Western countries get instant political benefits, but not economic benefits. At the same time, according to Novak, the EU’s decision to impose a ceiling price on Russian gas and other sanctions in the long run cause a long-term deep crisis and destabilization in the region.

Novak also predicted that the increase in gas production in Norway and the UK will be short-term, while LNG supplies to the EU may be unstable.

Formerly Die Welt newspaper WroteThat Germany, trying to change the supply of Russia’s energy resources, risks falling at the mercy of Qatar, which the emirate’s “threats” show due to the corruption scandal in the European Parliament.
