How are drivers selected?
In theory, anyone can become a driver. The most important thing is to have a driver’s license and driving experience. The decision is made in the military registration and recruitment office, according to the needs.
In some cases you can become an army driver without a driver’s license. In the “training school” they will learn to drive, and it will be possible to continue the service already at the wheel. At the end of the service, the conscript receives a document confirming the completion of the driver training. However, such a prospect is only possible for those who intend to remain on contract.
And yet, for those who want to be employed by a driver, it is preferable to have pre-open categories B, C, D, E in the driver’s license.
Driver selection criteria
There are two criteria: professional and medical.
- The medical selection is made by the Military Medical Commission. Here’s a health check.
- Professional selection involves consideration of documents related to education and existing vehicle driving practice.
To pass a medical examination for a driver’s specialty, a conscript must meet certain criteria:
- height from 155 cm;
- hear, so you can hear a whisper;
- vision capable of distinguishing color gamuts.
To become a driver, you must have a category not lower than B-3, which is assigned if there are minor health problems: allergies, dentistry, etc.
Duties of a Driver in the RF Forces

- monitor the condition of the fixed vehicle;
- checking the consumption of fuel and technical fluids;

According to the charter, the driver does not have the right to transfer control of the car to third parties. And while driving you are not allowed to eat, drink water or smoke.
Which of the riding categories is most in demand in the military?
This includes category B and C. As in civilian life, in category B only passenger cars will be charged with driving a vehicle. Category C allows you to drive heavier equipment, including armored passenger cars.
In the event of a breakdown or accident, the driver is responsible for repairing the vehicle.
