The head of AVTOVAZ spoke here about the situation with Vesta NG.
What fate awaits Largus? Won’t you give up like Ixray?
– I hope we can solve all the problems related to components – and we will put Largus on the conveyor before the end of this year. There will be at least one airbag – without fail. There will also be ABS. With Largus, the task is not easy either, as the localization level is significantly lower than Vesta’s – about 65% in the first level.
I can’t name the price for Largus yet, but it will be market.
Largus production in Togliatti will resume before the end of the year – all cars will be equipped with ABS.
Many people wonder: should Duster be expected under the Lada logo? And in general, why not copy a car – for example, Volkswagen?
– You can copy everything in a single copy. But on an industrial scale, it is impossible to build up the logistics for the production of auto parts in a short time. This is a solvable task, but it will take at least three or four years, which we don’t have.
This also applies to Duster. Because we are looking for an individual solution for each part – something has to be replaced, something has to be localized. And we live in the legal field and have partnerships with Renault, which supplies us with parts for that same Largus.
And the agreements are such that we have to pay royalties to Renault – license payments for every Duster sold. Once we get the hang of the Duster, these fees are calculated based on the total resale value of each car. If the car is sold for a million, then we will have to pay about 4% – that is 40 thousand rubles. If the price of the car is two million, then it is already 80 thousand rubles. In terms of total production – a lot of money.
So for now, we’ve put the Duster project aside.
And the electric Largus?
“But this project is in the works. I am grateful to the head of the Republic of Udmurtia, Alexander Brechalov, for his belief in this project. Of all these announced projects, e-Largus will be the only truly Russian electric vehicle with a high degree of localization. I am sure that this car will be successful in business – in delivery companies, in taxis, in carsharing.
This is the platform of the electric car e-Largus, which will be produced in Izhevsk.
One of the bottlenecks of any electric vehicle is the traction battery. In Tolyatti they select the best option for the e-Largus in terms of energy intensity, performance and cost.
The first prototype will be made before the end of this year. In 2023 we will assemble the pilot batch. And the further fate of the car will depend on the needs of the market and state support for such projects. When we feel the market is ready, we will start with the small-scale and then mass production of the e-Largus.
We are going to produce e‑Largus in Izhevsk. The production of body panels for Vesta, the production of plastic parts for the conveyor belt and spare parts are also stored there.
