The mechanism of parallel imports of goods has been expanded in Russia. It would stop working by the end of 2022, but now, as the head of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Maxim Reshetnikov said, the validity period is being extended. How much is not yet known.
The fact is that, as Denis Manturov, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, explained in July, the government plans to gradually remove goods from the list of goods allowed for parallel imports as they are replaced.
By themselves, parallel imports allow us to import 50 groups of goods and more than 200 brands into our country. In particular, thanks to him, about 2-3 thousand foreign cars Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Tesla, Skoda, Toyota, Jaguar, Jeep, Land Rover, Chrysler, Bentley and so on are imported into Russia every month.
As Avtopole Development Director Sergey Vainer told Avtostat, parallel imports will not fully replace and offset the supply of cars from official importers. But its share can reach 20-30%.
“The subjective feeling of the volume of imports by official car dealers is about 2-3 thousand units per month. Of course, cars from the premium segment will have the greatest distribution, because regardless of the cost of the car, the Volkswagen Polo or the Mercedes G63 will occupy one parking space on a ferry or car transporter. Therefore, the logistics are about the same, but the chances of selling and getting a bigger margin on more expensive cars are definitely higher,” explains Andrey Olkhovsky, general manager of Avtodom Group of Companies.
