How our auto industry will continue to live in the ever-tightening grip of the Western blockade, Denis Manturov, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Minister of Industry and Trade, told MK in an exclusive interview.
The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade did not deny the obvious: because of the sanctions in the automotive sector, many factories stopped, but AVTOVAZ, for example, resumed work and even closed the half-year without a loss, despite the strong recession . Although prices have gone up.
“Western owners, who are now leaving the management of their Russian car production, will be replaced.
They will lose our market and it is unknown if they will be able to return there and for our manufacturers this will create room for development.
As they say, a holy place is never empty,” the minister said.
But, as a result of this “replacement”, will the Russian consumer lose the opportunity to buy high-quality foreign cars of their favorite brands?
Manturov noted that a parallel import mechanism was launched for this, which allows people to buy western equipment and not deprive them of their usual brand choice.
But when the market is saturated with alternative products, alternative options will be: a) cheaper, b) better, c) more profitable.
About the alternative
And it turns out that there is too much hassle with Western cars: importing a car into the country via a roundabout route, maintaining it without a manufacturer’s warranty. At the same time, another manufacturer, from a friendly country, will provide guarantees and undertake to supply and maintain everything. But Manturov believes that this should happen in a natural way, so that people understand for themselves what is easier and more profitable for them.
Moreover, the list of friendly countries is not limited to China alone, although frankly it should be noted that a real revolution has taken place in the last ten years, especially when it comes to improving the quality of goods.
“And I recently tested an electric SUV that will be produced in Lipetsk on a Chinese platform. And I decided I would buy one. Attitudes towards the Chinese auto industry are now certainly possible and should even be reconsidered.”– Manturov summed up.
