Resellers are exporting new cars en masse from Kazakhstan to Russia, the TV channel Astana reports. According to Tatarstan’s customs statistics, 237 cars from a neighboring country have been brought into the region since the beginning of the year, and only 4 cars a year ago.
The channel explains the great interest in the fact that Russia is dealing with a protracted crisis in the car industry: new car sales have already fallen by 70% due to rising prices.
The difference for the same model on different sides of the border starts at a million rubles, private dealers say. The resellers business is thriving, and the Internet is full of sites and forums where you can find contacts and advice on how to get a car from Kazakhstan.
Experts believe that almost the entire Kazakhstan fleet of new cars can “go” to Russia – after all, it is geographically convenient for Russians to buy cars from their neighbors, and it turns out much cheaper due to the exchange rate and low customs duties.

Oleg Nurmuchametov, a private dealer from Russia, helps compatriots buy a car in Nur-Sultan. He said it is enough to find a Kazakhstani who buys a car in a car center and send it to the Russian Federation. According to this scheme, the guy has already sold more than 50 cars and crossovers. “Formally, Kazakh citizens are the first buyers. To do the customs clearance, we pay all customs duties in Kazakhstan, we pay all port services, then we put the car on a car transporter and take it to Russia,” he said on the TV channel’s airwaves.
The only difficulty in this scheme is the conversion of rubles into tenge. Russian banks, unlike Kazakh banks, transfer money at an unfavorable rate, a private dealer said. But obviously overbids have found a loophole here too, they’re just not very interested in talking about it on the air.
The man admitted that it was nice to associate with Kazakhstani, he had never encountered cheating. We agreed on a price, shook hands, made a deposit – and everything is fine.
The reseller also noted that this market will only flourish as many transit cars come to Kazakhstan ports, which were not even intended for the local market.
