Almost without foreign cars: AVTOVAZ returned to 2005 sales volumes

The crisis in the supply of spare parts and the closure of many car assembly plants have significantly changed the balance of power in the Russian car market. More than half of all new car sales are Lada and Chinese brands, notes an expert from the analytical agency Avtostat. Both stocks are in a phase of constant growth – the “Chinese”, for example, already occupy 25% of the market at the end of August.

And the share of AVTOVAZ products, which accounted for more than 30% of all new passenger car sales in July, approached 40% in August! It is worth remembering that quite recently it was significantly less: according to the AEB it was only 15.5% in the worst year of 2014 in the past 10 years and in the record 2020 it barely rose to 21.5%. .

The level shown now is the figures of 2005, when there were not too many foreign cars in the country and AVTOVAZ occupied 38.7% of the total new car market. But if the figure then declined steadily year after year (for reference, in 2001 it was 48.6%), then we are now waiting for the reverse process.

Experts say that in 2023, the share of Lada and Chinese brands will increase even further. And whose role will ultimately be dominant is impossible to say with certainty. According to the results of the first half of 2022, the number of dealer centers of Chinese brands in the Russian Federation was 1.5 times greater than the number of Russian ones.
