Representatives of large dealer holdings told socialbites.ca that the greatest demand among used Chinese cars on the Russian market is for crossovers from Chery, Geely and Haval, which also occupy leading positions in sales of new cars.
“Nowadays, buying a Chinese car on the secondary market is becoming an increasingly popular choice among Russian buyers.
This is a reasonable option in terms of price-quality ratio,
but it is important to take into account the mileage and technical condition of the car,” Roman Titov, deputy general director of the Avilon automobile group for used cars, told socialbites.ca.
What to buy from Chinese cars
According to him, all Chinese cars officially presented in Russia are already entering the secondary market, and crossovers show good sales dynamics
Changan Uni-K and CS75, Geely Atlas and Tugella, Tank 300 and 500, Haval Jolion and Haval Dargo.
“Russian consumers are getting used to Chinese cars and they want to buy one-year and two-year dealer cars with low mileage. Since confidence in the quality of Chinese cars is still lower than that of European or Japanese cars, they are wary of cars with high mileage,” said Titov, urging to focus on its mileage and technical condition when choosing a used car in China.
Experts are selected
Andrey Grishakov, director of the used car department of the Avtodom and Autospetscenter group of companies, called Chinese brands Haval Jolion, Chery Tiggo 4 and 7, as well as Geely Monjaro as the most popular second-hand cars.
“Haval, Chery and Geely brands are most in demand in the second-hand car market.
This is explained by the fact that they occupy a leading position in the structure of new car brands sold in the Russian Federation,” Grishakov explained to socialbites.ca.
He added that the constant increase in prices of cars imported into the country through alternative import channels and the lack of spare parts and professional equipment for repairs encourage an increasing number of buyers to purchase cars from Chinese brands.
Secondary breaks record
In terms of the number of cars sold, the Russian second-hand car market reached the same level as in Russia in 2014, with sales of 6.1 million units. reported analytical agency “Avtostat”.
Car selection experts say that Russians, in search of an acceptable price for their income, began to order second-hand cars from China. Chinese cars are expected to make a major entry into the secondary market.
“Basically, customers want to buy cars with a mileage of up to 50-60 thousand km; there is a lot of demand for such cars from China.”
– autocollector Semyon Didenko told socialbites.ca.
The secondary market for Chinese cars is still small; He added that they will go on sale in bulk within two years, but that the best-selling cars in the Russian market, such as the Geely Coolray, are already selling well in used form.
“We can recommend Geely cars; This manufacturer showed the right approach many years ago and attracted European engineers and designers to develop it and acquired the Volvo brand. They have reliable engines and gearboxes,” Didenko said.
Car selector Sergei Lomonov believes that Russian consumers have not yet tried Chinese cars in the secondary market and prefer to buy them new due to discounts from dealers and the availability of a warranty.
“Used Chinese cars are still on low sales as automakers offer very good conditions, installment plans and discounts for new ones.
The price difference is not that big
and buyers prefer to overpay and secure the car,” Lomonov told socialbites.ca.
The warranty gives buyers a sense of security that the car will be repaired if something happens. At the same time, it is much more difficult to find spare parts for Chinese cars, and even for the most popular brands you have to order some spare parts from China and wait three months or order parts several times, because they differ depending on the model. The auto expert stated the year of manufacture.
