Some drivers choose to install all-season tires on their vehicles without considering the serious dangers they pose, including when operating in sub-zero temperatures. Andrey Mershiev, owner and head of Fit Service car services, told this to a socialbites.ca correspondent.
“All-season tires are tires with average characteristics. The composition of the rubber mixture is such that it is hard enough for summer but not soft enough for winter. These types of tires wear out much faster than seasonal tires. In addition, all-season vehicle use causes fuel consumption to increase,” said Mershiev.
The braking distance of all-season tires on dry or wet asphalt, ice and snow in sub-zero weather is longer than seasonal tires due to loss of elasticity. This means that the ability to drive the car safely is significantly lower. In most tests these tires are at the bottom of the rating. Therefore, with such “rubbers” the driver achieves neither confidence nor safety, the expert said.
According to the expert, such tires are absolutely not suitable for sports driving enthusiasts due to their unstable behavior on the road. They will also not allow you to realize the speed potential of a powerful car.
However, in regions with temperate and hot climates, it is acceptable to use all-season tires even during winter months. Mershiev concluded that such tires may be suitable for those who drive no more than 10 thousand km per year.
