There will be no more Russian Volkswagens

German auto group Volkswagen has begun preparations for the sale of its Kaluga plant, writes Gazeta.ru, citing informed sources. However, there is no official statement from the company yet.

It is known that the Russian company of the German concern was recently visited by two delegations of potential buyers – from Kazakhstan and Austria, as well as officials of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The willingness of the German carmaker to get rid of the asset is evidenced by the fact that the Russian representative office of Volkswagen recently changed heads: the ex-HR director became the new general manager (HR) Gerrit Spengler. The appointment of an HR manager always indicates the curtailment or significant reduction of the business, this is common practice.

In June, Volkswagen announced the closure of the Nizhny Novgorod site and asked employees to voluntarily resign for bonuses.

The Volkswagen plant in the Grabtsevo Technopark in the Kaluga region began production of cars in 2009. Models produced in Kaluga Volkswagen Polo, skoda fast and Volkswagen Tiguan. In Nizhny Novgorod on the GAZ site – Skoda Octavia, Karoq and Kodiaq and Volkswagen Taos.
