The use of dishwashing and glass washing gels, abrasive, acidic and alkaline cleaners to clean the engine will lead to corrosion or failure of individual parts of the power unit, – Alexey Balashov, service director of Avilon Mercedes-Benz, told socialbites.ca.
“For example, conventional detergents for dishes, glass and other surfaces are extremely undesirable to use for washing a car engine, as they can damage the plastic and rubber parts of the power unit and leave traces on them that can subsequently be difficult to remove,” Balashov said.
According to the expert, it is also strictly forbidden to wash the engine with acidic and alkaline cleaners – they can cause corrosion of metal parts and damage to electronic components. Abrasives are also undesirable for washing the engine – they scratch the engine housing, accelerating its wear.
The engine should be cleaned of dirt no more than once a year, otherwise the wear of the engine elements may increase. Also, do not wash the power unit in winter – the water will freeze, expand and tear the iron.
