Representatives of large dealership holdings told socialbites.ca that by mid-2024 dealerships will not run out of cars produced last year.
“Today, about 1/3 of the total number of cars produced in 2023 remain in the stock of new cars. For all model series without exception. Last year’s discount is 3-5% more depending on the brand, – Deputy General Director of New Car Sales of Avilon Group Renat Tyukteev told socialbites.ca.
The expert predicted that such cars are being bought more actively than those produced this year, and taking into account the price difference, the warehouse volume of last year’s cars will be enough for only two months of trading.
According to Tyukteev, car prices will be reflected in new recycling fee rates in 2024. The 70-85% increase was previously announced by the Ministry of Industry and Trade; a draft government decision on this is currently being discussed by the public.
Stagnant since last year
Kirill Gerasimov, director of the Vnukovo division of AutoSpetsCenter, agrees with Tyukteev, there are quite a few 2023 cars left in dealer stocks and importers’ warehouses.
“For example, these are the premium SUVs Tank 300 and Tank 500, crossovers Jetour Dashing and X90Plus, complex positions in electric vehicles such as Wey and Ora. The Changan brand also has a number of 2023 models, in particular, the sedans Lamore and Eado Plus,” Gerasimov told socialbites.ca.
On the contrary, the demand for Haval brand cars is quite high: last year’s crossovers of this brand are sold out, only the GWM Poer and GWM Poer King Kong pickups of 2023 production remain in stock. The expert noted that their prices are 300 thousand rubles lower than for 2024 cars.
“Cars produced in 2023, of course, have advantages compared to those released in 2024, but on average the difference is not so big – from 50 thousand to 100 thousand rubles. The dynamics of demand for different brands and models differ: I think that some brands will run out of stocks by the beginning of autumn, while others (the same GWM pickups) may last until the end of this year,” Gerasimov concluded.
According to Olga Antyushina, general director of the AutoSpetsCenter Khimki division, Chery cars are the best-selling; last year’s cars are almost sold out. The situation is fundamentally different with cars of the Exeed brand, which belongs to Chery.
“We currently have 97 Exeeds of various models in stock and the cost difference between the 2023 and 2024 cars depending on the model is as follows: From 200 thousand to 500 thousand rubles“Antyushina told socialbites.ca.
Given the pace of sales and the price difference, the 2023 vehicles should be sold within three months, he said.
Last year’s Lada
At the official Lada dealership in Moscow, where a socialbites.ca correspondent asked about buying an inexpensive Lada Vesta sedan, a discount of only 50 thousand rubles was offered for a 2023 model car.
“If you pay cash, the cost of the car will be 1.49 million rubles. If you buy a car in 2023, the cost will be 1.44 million rubles. Cars are available in stock with title deeds, one day purchase is possible,” the seller said.
At the Lada dealership in Samara, last year’s Vesta is also in stock. They offered to buy such a car in the basic Comfort configuration for 1.46 million rubles.
Changan car dealership in Moscow, where a socialbites.ca correspondent asked about purchasing the Changan Lamore sedan, was told that the 2024 car will cost at least 100 thousand rubles more when ordered than last year.
“The cars are available only for 2023. But the equipment is the same as for 2024. If you order, the price difference will be about 100 thousand rubles. But keep in mind that from October 1 they will increase the recycling fee and the cars may become more expensive,” the seller warned.
The Chinese Omoda also has cars for 2023. A dealer in one of the southern regions of Russia told the socialbites.ca correspondent that the 2023 Omoda S5 sedan with a naturally aspirated engine and a CVT can be purchased for cash for 2.02 million rubles (the price of such a car according to the manufacturer’s list is 2.25 million rubles).
