Drilling a hole in the body of a faulty battery using AGM technology and adding distilled water will still not revive it. In this respect reports “Behind the wheel”.
“These batteries work on the principle of a closed oxygen cycle and do not require the addition of water since the electrolyte is contained in the pores of the glass mat and the electrode body, that is, it does not have a free liquid phase. . And one of the main operating conditions is extreme pressure, under which a closed oxygen cycle is produced. For this reason, drilling holes in such batteries is unacceptable,” the message says.
The AGM battery is a battery with special conductive absorber plates instead of liquid electrolyte. The abbreviation AGM stands for Absorbent FiberGlass Mat.
The advantages of AGM vehicle batteries include fast charging and no loss of resources due to constant low charging, the ability to install the battery in any location and high fire safety.
Before that, automobile expert Mikhail Kolodochkin saidDischarging a car battery completely, especially at low temperatures, can damage it.
According to him, if there is frost outside, the discharged battery will not last long: the water will turn into ice and the body shape will be distorted. But if the temperature is close to zero, even the simplest open-type battery will most likely come to life after recharging. Such situations often occur on cars whose headlights are not turned off, but after that the battery does not always need to be replaced with a new one.
According to the expert, to check how much battery life is depleted, its voltage needs to be measured. This needs to be done in a car that has been waiting for a few hours after the trip. If the voltage of the battery is 12.3 V, this may indicate that the battery is undercharged.
Previously reportedthat a car battery does not last more than two years.
