Poplar fluff can damage the car engine. Deputy Chairman of the National Automobile Union (NAU) Jan Heitzer told socialbites.ca about this.
“The first thing damaged by poplar fluff is the cooling radiator. This is especially true for cars, which are initially covered with a copious layer of dust and no one washes them after the winter. The fluff mixes with dirt, and all this mass turns into solid “concrete”, which interferes with the normal operation of the car, especially the cooling system. Therefore, the engine starts to overheat,” Heitzeher said.
If you do not notice the process of engine overheating in time, the unit may fail and the car owner will have to rebuild it. At best, the specialist will tighten the cylinder head gasket; He explained that in the worst case scenario, a crack could form in the block.
Additionally, poplar fluff clogs the air filter, reducing efficiency. The engine is not getting enough air for proper fuel combustion. This results in reduced engine power, Heitzer said.
