Russian insurance companies want to force their customers to repair cars with parts from scrapyards in order to reduce monetary compensation. About this “socialbites.ca” said lawyer of the automobile movement “Freedom of Choice” Sergei Radko.
According to him, insurers are obliged by law to provide such monetary compensation to customers when resolving accidents in the MTPL system. But they are trying in every possible way to underestimate these amounts. A possible reform in compulsory traffic insurance is one of these ways.
“Payment will be made in cash, which will allow the insurer to reduce its size. The insurer can calculate a certain average cost of a broken or worn car purchased from a car mechanic, and not the cost of a new part that needs to be installed,” Radko explained.
According to the lawyer, last year only 5-6% of cars were sent for repair under compulsory car insurance.
20 May recognizedIt was stated that insurers prepared the justification for repairs within the scope of MTPL with spare parts of defective and worn out vehicles. They plan to lobby for this initiative to be signed into legislation in 2024.
