A racing car flew into the crowd at a rally competition in the Leningrad region. As an eyewitness of the incident, Alexandra, told socialbites.ca, the accident occurred due to the fact that the car, which did not have sufficient speed when turning, hit a bump and hit people. According to him, one of the spectators fell, and the second was “dragged under the car.”
“We were standing in front of us, these spectators were standing five meters away from us – an adult man and a young man. They were standing on a small hill, the rest of the audience was behind the ribbon, but there was danger there too. Last year, in the standard competition, a car came there and knocked over a chair. We know it’s dangerous to stand there. We stood across the hill and watched it all. The ribbon was stretched exactly where the car had arrived last year, and the man stood a little further away. The pilot’s car that hit the man was turning left. I moved left, I started shifting right and there wasn’t enough speed and power because it was driving pretty slow for a race car. He gets caught in a crash with his wheel and is dragged directly towards the viewer. One person was hit tangentially, rolled over, fell, and suffered a concussion. Another was dragged under the car and thrown five meters away. “The car went further, into a ditch, into the bushes,” he said.
Alexandra explained that the victim was conscious after the incident despite multiple fractures, but his son later reported him dead in intensive care.
“They immediately started providing first aid, called an ambulance and stopped the next car. The ambulance came, they put a splint on the man’s neck, laid him on a stretcher and carried him to the car. There they tried to give him all the first aid they could, but apparently there were not enough medical supplies, so they called a few more ambulance crews. Three cars arrived, the traffic police began to inspect everything, and a representative of the organizer arrived. They began to transfer the victim to another car, which contained the necessary medical equipment. They put two splints on him, two of his legs were broken, one of his arms was in bad shape, almost hanging off, his ribs and internal organs were obviously damaged. But he was conscious, communicating, and his son was in his place. We were all asked to leave. “They took him to the hospital, and then his son wrote that his father died in the intensive care unit and did not undergo surgery due to multiple fractures,” she added.
The woman emphasized that the race car driver was in shock after the accident but confessed his crime.
“The first thing I did was run to the driver to grab the SOS sign and show it to him. He opened the door – the driver sat in shock, didn’t get out, and asked how the hit-and-run victim was feeling. When the ambulance arrived, he came out in shock and began to fully accept his guilt, that he was responsible for everything, even though it was a two-way situation. We have a friend where the traffic police are lined up. “He said that they handcuffed him, put the pilot in the traffic police car and took him to the investigation committee to find out the details,” he explained.
