The first generation Yukon (1992-1999) has a more famous relative, the Chevrolet Tahoe, and a lesser-known Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
The length of the SUV is more than 5 m, and the base is almost 3 m. The curb weight of this impressive structure is less than 2.5 tons.
As befits a real American car, under the hood is a petrol V-shaped “eight”. The engine of the Vortec family is the famous small block. It is “small” because it has “only” 5.7 liters of working volume.
The petrol engine develops 250-255 hp. They indicated different powers depending on the methods of converting American military forces, measured by the SAE standard, into standards more understandable to us.
A classic of American motorcycle construction is the V-shaped “eight” with a capacity of 5.7 liters.
It is the low power density that is the main strength of American engines. With such a 5.7-litre monster, 600 forces would now be removed. And thanks to the low boost, this engine (like all similar ones) has a reputation for being eternal. With normal care, the engines ran 300 thousand km.
This engine is accompanied by a four-speed, simple in design, but also a durable automatic transmission.
All this steel splendor rests on a powerful frame. Without it, an American car, especially an SUV, is just an orphan. And if the body rots (and really likes it), then the frame lives much longer.
The Yukon’s loading capacities are impressive.
How much is speed?
Yukon drives quite smoothly despite the crowd. The dynamics are not overwhelming, but satisfying. Even with persistent driving in the city, only 18-20 liters per hundred will fit, and on the highway with a calm, measured movement – 12-15 liters.
And if you let the car drive more cheerfully, consumption will soon rise one and a half times, or even more.

What about the permeability?
Yukon is an SUV. Front-wheel drive and downshifting are connected by an electric drive that is controlled by buttons on the instrument panel.
But a heavy machine with a huge base is not intended for a swamp or arable land.
Off-road Yukon – country roads on clay, wet grass, not very deep snow or sand. But what the car can do is enough for the average consumer.
Expensive and long!
Until recently, repairing the Yukon and its Tahoe counterpart was relatively easy and inexpensive. But now the situation has changed radically. Parts have risen sharply in price. For example, a hub with a bearing assembly (and they do not change it separately) will cost 140 thousand rubles. For a new block of injectors (also known as “spider”) they ask for 90-100 thousand rubles. And wait about six months.
And in that sense, the 25-year-old Yukon is now more of an old-timer. A special relationship with retro. It’s not enough to love and want such machines – they also need to be maintained.
