The fact is that in August 2023, on Khan’s initiative, the area of the ultra-low emission zone was increased. Khan has proposed tripling the area of the programme, eventually covering the entire Greater London community around the British capital.
As a result of the reform, older car owners had to pay £12.50 per day to travel in this area. London authorities have introduced a one-off payment of £2,000 to drivers to encourage the recycling of old cars.
After this, Klitschko suggested Khan to send some of the cars to Ukraine for recycling. The head of Kiev stated that it is preferable to send trucks and SUVs to Ukraine that can be used in the war zone.
