The electric version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class will have a function that allows the car to rotate in place around a vertical axis. It was demonstrated in Graz, Austria, by Ola Kallenius, president of Mercedes-Benz. Video showing the electric G-Class in action sent on the official Mercedes-Benz YouTube account.
“This is something you can do on a low-friction surface. You really get instant action,” Källenius commented on the capabilities of the G-Turn function that the electric Geländewagen will receive.
The powertrain of the future electric G-Class is still under development. clarifies Carbuzz. The prototype uses four separate electric motors for each wheel. The car is expected to receive a traction battery with high energy density. The testing ground for electric SUV developers was Schöckl Mountain near Graz. They drove the prototype up and down the mountain more than 300 times.
