The Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development of the city of Moscow explained the meaning of the phrase “Roll like a sausage along Malaya Spasskaya” on its Telegram channel.
Have you heard the expressions ““Riding on a sausage”, “Rolling a sausage along Malaya Spasskaya”? The “sausage” in old tram cars was called the hose of the air line of the pneumatic brake. In the back of the last car, the free end of the sleeve was fixed and folded in a semicircle, resembling a sausage ring. The sausage in our time is sometimes called an old-fashioned tram hitch, ”said the Moscow Ministry of Transport.
The ministry noted that due to the lack of space in the old trams, many passengers were able to get on the “sausage” or climb the steps.
“All these actions are very dangerous, so they should never be repeated. Now Moscow has a lot of innovative wide trams: there is enough space for everyone,” he said.
