Is it spacious?
The outer dimensions of the “seven” (body height – 4500 mm) approximately correspond to such crossovers as the Mazda CX-5 and Volkswagen Tiguan. In terms of second-row space, Chery Tiggo 7 Pro leads the way in the segment. There is especially a lot of space in the height – even tall passengers do not feel cramped. With C-crossovers this is the exception rather than the rule.
But with ease you are only on the edges – in the middle you have to sit on a hard bump, and even the floor tunnel interferes. And in general, why does a purely front-wheel drive car need it, since there is no shaft drive?
Is the driver comfortable?
The interior is an important asset of the “seven”. Pleasant design, solid workmanship – there is even a stitching of the front panel elements with threads (its imitation is most often used). The equipment is also in order: the tested version of the Prestige has a panoramic roof, dual-zone climate control, mood lighting and an electromechanical parking brake drive.
The only thing missing were heated backrests – for our winters this is a serious drawback. But the seats themselves did not disappoint. They have a good profile and the adjustment ranges (electric) are sufficient. In addition, it is possible to change the position of the lumbar support in height and depth – this is not common in Chinese cars.
Climate control – touch keys. In sub-zero temperatures in an unheated cabin, they worked flawlessly.
Virtual instruments are the basic equipment. Do you also think that the information is presented too compactly?
All-round visibility is the privilege of the top configuration Prestige.
Is there anything that competitors don’t do?
Tiggo captivates with a cool media system. It has a large ten-inch screen, a pleasant high-quality resolution (1920 × 720). The surround view system can mimic the image of the car, so you can see yourself from the side. Good aid for maneuvering in tight spaces.
Another feature is the possibility to adjust the lift height of the tailgate via the menu. Handy if you have a low ceiling in your garage.
The trunk is not small (according to our measurements – 368 liters). It is a pity that the ridges of the second row do not fold into the horizon – they form a springboard.
Dokatka is not the best solution for our country. With a full-size spare part, it’s somehow quieter…
Too bad there are no fog lights and headlight washers. In muddy weather, the car quickly becomes “blind”.
Is there a place to put your phone?
The Tiggo 7 Pro has an extremely well thought-out and functional interior. Places for small things in bulk. I really liked the large and intelligently organized box armrest: a sliding lid, a cooling function, a movable divider with cup holders.
Under the console is an impressive niche with a rubber coating. Plus spacious door pockets, glasses case, a spacious shelf for a smartphone. In addition, in the top version (and this is only our case) there is also a 15 watt wireless charging for smartphones.
It won’t be easy for the right passenger to get to the USB ports…
What about child seats?
It is possible to place two child seats in the second row of seats. ISOFIX brackets are included for this, as well as Top Tether loops on the back of the rear seat backs. There is no isofix in the front, but it is still not prohibited to fit a child seat: the front passenger airbag is deactivated even in the basic version (for some European cars, the deactivation function is available as an option). Basically, the “seven” is well prepared for the transportation of babies.
The second row would do well to adjust the seats longitudinally.
Engine and gearbox
The dynamics of the “seven” pleasantly surprises. According to factory data, it takes 9.8 seconds to accelerate to hundreds, and this appears to be true: gears are snappy and linear, with no dips. For several days there has never been a situation for me to scold the engine for the lack of “power”.
A 1.5 liter aluminum turbo engine produces 147 hp. Torque – 210 Nm. It doesn’t seem like the most notable indicators, but you’re going. The average fuel consumption according to the test results was 9.3 l/100 km. The Chinese approve refueling with AI 92 gasoline, but I would not advise: how long will the “health” engine last?
The engine compartment is completely covered from above with a plastic shield. This is good for cleanliness, but even for basic operations, such as checking the oil level, you have to open a special hatch.
A manual transmission is not offered – just a CVT25 variator with a steel belt. The design is designed to transmit torque of up to 280 Nm. There were no questions about the endurance during the test: even after a long ride in a snow rut, it did not overheat.
What I didn’t like was the shift joystick, which doesn’t allow you to shift from D to R and back with one “click” – you have to swing the lever twice. If you get stuck, it will be problematic to get out of the swing.
We measured 185mm of clearance under the metal guard. There is always a point at the front and back to screw in the anchor bolt.
As you can see the exhaust pipes here are fake. Fashion is now.
LED headlights shine brightly. But the lack of fog lights does not justify this!
How does it steer?
Built “seven” on the modular front-wheel drive T1X platform. There are McPherson struts in the front, a multi-link in the rear. In terms of handling, the car lacks stars from the sky – the leaders of the segment drive more interestingly. Steering light on twisty trails lacks reactive power (but the “zero” is clearly expressed). Plus, there’s pronounced understeer: the Tiggo doesn’t come into the arc very willingly, and on iteration with speed, it just falls out of trajectory.
But you only feel these shortcomings when driving assertively, close to the limit modes. If you drive calmly, the Tiggo 7 Pro is experienced as a pleasant and harmonious car. Well, especially happy with the good smoothness. The suspension is soft, on bumps and speed bumps the crew does not shake, but waves impressively. And everything is fine with the energy intensity – the chassis can take a beating. This is appreciated in regions with bad roads.
Panoramic roof seals went in waves. I wonder if there will be leaks in the rain?
The rear right headrest was stuck: refused to sink.
